Capture what the site displays

Record the legal entity name, trading name, company or VAT number, postal address, email, phone and responsible operator exactly as shown. Note which page contains each item and whether information is consistent across terms, privacy, contact and checkout pages.

Check an official register where possible

Use the relevant national business register or the EU e-Justice gateway to locate the official source. A matching name and number can corroborate that a registered entity exists; it does not prove that every website claim or commercial activity is authorised.

Test contact routes proportionately

A pre-publication desk review can confirm whether an address format is plausible and whether email or contact forms accept a neutral evidence question. Do not fabricate a purchase or personal experience. Record response date, content and any unanswered points.

Keep identity confidence granular

A verified registration, a displayed address and an answered support email are separate facts. Present each independently so readers can see what is established and what remains unknown.

  • Trading name versus legal entity
  • Registered address versus fulfilment location
  • Displayed VAT number versus validated VAT record
  • Support channel versus tested response
